The 2011 Fractal Universe Calendar???

Published by keith at 7:17 am under Fractal Art

When the 2011 Fractal Universe Calendar appeared on Amazon it didn’t have a cover so there was no way to know what it was all about. As far as I knew, the 2010 calendar was supposed to be the last Fractal Universe Calendar. That was reinforced when somebody who claimed to be from Orange Circle Studios left a comment here saying that they owned the rights to the Fractal Universe Calendar. Orange Circle Studios is publishing the Infinite Creations Calendar. When you look at the stuff in the Infinite Creations Calendar it looks a lot like the Fractal Universe Calendar, so it made sense that there was some link between the new Infinite Creations Calendar and the old Fractal Universe Calendar. It also made sense that they didn’t use the name “Fractal Universe” on the new calendar because that name is supposed to be a registered trademark – at least it was always followed by one of these ® on the old website.

The 2011 Fractal Universe Calendar now shows a cover image, and guess what? It’s an Apophysis image, probably from the 3D version of Apophysis. That’s a bit of a shocker. It’s not that I have a problem with Apophysis images. The shocker is that the old calendar didn’t have many Apophysis images in it (there might have been 1 image). That indicates to me that there is not an obvious link between the old Fractal Universe Calendar and the new one. It appears to be a different calendar with the same name.

I’m confused. It seems to me that using an old name on a new calendar creates a competitive advantage for the new calendar.

Congratulations to all of those thousands of Apophysis users for finally getting a calendar with what you love in it. Something seems a little strange about it, but maybe that’s just a lack of understanding on my part. It’s probably all good.
