Paradise at Mt Rainier – September 2, 2008
I took a trip to Paradise today. The pictures areĀ here. It was beautiful, but I have seen it better. I was there a little late for the peak of flower season and the snow was there a little too long, not giving the flowers a lot of time to bloom.
Even so, it turned out to be one of the most memorable trips that I have had there. After hiking up the Deadhorse Creek trail, I went down the Waterfall Trail to check out the renovated Paradise Inn. Just above the Inn I saw what looked like a very hairy deer, at least at first glance, but turned into this bear:
I haven’t seen a bear in the wild since I was a kid in Yellowstone, so it was very exciting to see this one. I don’t much about black bears, but this one seemed a little small, like it had just left its mother. It had no fear of us at all. There were signs posted at the visitor center and inn saying that multiple bears had been sighted in the area. They were right.
The background sounds in the video are the construction of the new visitor center and someone turning on their cell phone to take pictures. Sorry about my shakey hands.
There are more pictures in this album.
Awesome Keith, wish I could of been up there with you………….
Than you for sharing your experiance with us. I think the little guy just wants to know what the fuss is all about.
