A few months ago I was notified by mail that Lang Holdings had filed for chapter 11. This reaffirmed in my mind the reason that there was no call for images from Avalanche Publishing for the 2011 calendar. Avalanche is part of Lang Holdings. The press release says that they filed for bankruptcy protection on July 16, 2009. That’s right around time of year when images are selected for the next calendar.
I think that it is now pretty obvious what happened to the Fractal Universe calendar. It looks like the publisher was in financial trouble and they had to make some cuts. The emergence from banckruptcy must have been good news for the employees that survived, but obviously the business decisions leading up to the bankruptcy had an unfortunate impact on a few.
Orange Circle Studio now owns the rights to the Fractals 2011 wall calendar.

Thanks. I am not sure of what it means to own the rights to a calendar, especially when you are not using the name “Fractal Universe”, but it’s good to see another fractal calendar.
